How much does an AI employee cost? Pricing models compared (2026)
· 7 min read
If you are pricing up an AI employee for your business, the headline number is rarely the number you pay. Some tools charge per helper, some sell one bundle, some charge per seat, and almost all of them cap usage in some way. This guide explains the four pricing models, shows what a handful of well-known tools charge, and lists the costs people forget to check.
Prices below come from each vendor's own pricing page on 5 October 2026, using monthly billing unless stated. They change often, so check the vendor's site before you buy.
The short answer
Most AI employee tools for small business cost between nothing and about $100 a month for a single person. What changes is what that money buys: how many roles you get, how much work you can run each month, and whether the price stays the same when you renew.
If you only remember one thing, remember this: compare what you can actually get done in a month, not the sticker price.
The four pricing models
1. Per helper
You pay for each AI helper you switch on. It is easy to understand, and it suits you if you need one job done, such as social posts or support replies. It gets expensive fast if you want three or four roles, because each one is billed separately.
2. A bundle for the whole team
One price gives you all the helpers. This is how Sintra sells its 12 helpers, and how Crewmint sells its Growth plan with all 22 teammates. A bundle is usually the better deal if you need several roles, but check the usage cap, because a bundle can come with one shared allowance for every helper.
3. Per seat
You pay for each person on your team who uses the tool. Motion and Jasper price this way. It works well for a team of marketers, and badly for a solo founder who just wants the work done, because the seat price is the whole price.
4. Credits or usage
You get a monthly allowance of credits, hours or tasks. Every reply or action uses some. This is the model that surprises people most, because two plans at a similar price can give you very different months. We cover it in detail below.
What popular tools charge
| Tool | What you get | Free plan | Monthly price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sintra | 12 AI helpers | No | $48.50 for all (shown as 50% off $97), or $39 per helper |
| Marblism | 7 AI employees | No | $44 ($24 billed yearly) |
| Lindy | A general AI agent in Slack | $50 credits for 7 days | From $29.99 |
| Motion | Projects and calendar with AI employees | Free trial | From $19 per seat |
| Jasper | AI content platform | 7-day trial | $69 per seat |
| Crewmint | 22 AI teammates | Yes, one teammate | Free, $19 or $49 |

The costs that are easy to miss
Usage caps
A price with no cap on usage is rare. Sintra's whole-team plan includes 250 credits a month. Marblism caps usage at 50 hours of AI work a month. Lindy uses credits, and its own guide says research tasks can use hundreds of credits each. The question to ask is simple: how much real work fits inside the allowance? Run one of your normal weeks on a free plan or trial and watch how fast the allowance drops.
First-term discounts
Several tools show a large discount on the first term. A price shown at 50% off is a price for the first period, so ask what the renewal price is before you pay. Crewmint charges the same price on renewal, with no teaser discount.
Billing term
Monthly, quarterly and yearly prices can be very different. A yearly price looks cheap per month, but you pay for the whole year upfront. If you are not sure the tool fits, monthly billing is the safer way to test, even if the per-month price is higher.
Extra seats and workspaces
Some plans include one user. If a partner, assistant or freelancer needs access, check whether that costs extra.
Refund terms
A money-back window turns the first month into a low-risk test. Sintra offers 14 days and Marblism 7 days, per their own pages. Crewmint gives a full refund within 14 days of any charge, no questions.
Top-ups
When credits run out, helpers usually stop until you add more. Check the top-up price before you need it. Crewmint top-ups are 1,000 credits for $18, one time, and top-up credits carry over from month to month.
What Crewmint costs, in full
Crewmint is the tool we know best, so here are its plans exactly as listed on the pricing page:
| Plan | Price per month | Teammates | Credits per month |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Minty plus 1 teammate of your choice | 300 to start, then 100 a month |
| Starter | $19 ($15 billed yearly) | 8 of your choice | 800 |
| Growth | $49 ($39 billed yearly) | All 22 | 2,200 |
| Pro | $99 ($79 billed yearly) | All 22, plus custom teammates and workflows | 4,500 |
| Agency | $299 ($239 billed yearly) | All 22, unlimited client workspaces | 12,000, shared with clients |
Every plan, including Free, gets every integration. Each reply and each action a teammate takes uses credits, and bigger models and longer jobs use more. Your balance and every charge are shown on the Plan and credits page, so you can see where credits go.
On the yearly Growth plan, $39 a month comes to $468 a year. That is for a whole crew that includes Nova for social media, Sage for SEO and Max for Google and Meta ads, with every post, email and ad change waiting for your approval before it goes out.
How to work out what is worth paying
You do not need a spreadsheet. Three steps are enough.
- List the three jobs you most want off your plate. Social posts, support replies, outreach, ads, reports. Be specific.
- Check each tool has a role for those jobs. A cheap tool that lacks one of your three jobs is not cheap.
- Test on real work for a week. Use a free plan or trial, give it a real task, and note how much of the allowance it used. If the work is good and the allowance lasts, the price is fair.

AI employee, virtual assistant or ChatGPT?
The price is only part of the choice. A person gives you judgement and relationships. A general chatbot is flexible but starts every task fresh. An AI employee is a specialist that remembers your business. Our guides explain the trade-offs: AI employee vs virtual assistant, ChatGPT vs AI employees and what AI employees can really do in 2026.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a free AI employee?
Some tools offer a free plan and some offer only a short trial. Crewmint has a free plan with Minty and one teammate of your choice, with 300 credits to start and no card needed. Sintra and Marblism have no free plan, according to their pricing pages on 5 October 2026.
Is a bundle always cheaper than paying per helper?
Usually, once you need three or more roles. But a bundle with a shared, small allowance can run out sooner than a single helper with its own. Check the cap first.
Do I pay more for heavier use?
On credit-based plans, yes: when the monthly allowance is used up you either wait for the next month or buy a top-up. On flat plans, heavy use can hit a fair-use limit instead.
What should I check before I pay?
Five things: the renewal price, the usage cap, the billing term, the refund window and the top-up price. If a vendor does not state one of them clearly, ask.
Start with the free plan
You can try Crewmint with one teammate before you pay anything. Start free, give your teammate a real task, and see how far the credits go. If you need more, compare the plans on the pricing page.
